About PMF

The Physicians Medical Forum (PMF) of Oakland, CA was founded in October, 2002 as the result of a grant from the Sutter Corporation, focused on maintaining diversity among practicing physicians in the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Area.

Programs and Initiatives include:
Physicians Database Registry
Developed and published in 2006, this is the first comprehensive registry & database of African-American and other minority physicians for Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties. The registry will be updated every 2 years.

Physicians Retention and Recruitment Study
In 2005 & 2006, a study was conducted and published on African American physicians in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco Counties to determine what basic requisites must be met in order to practice medicine and thrive in the Bay Area. Such knowledge will allow PMF to better tailor and offer programs to meet the identified needs of physicians, residents & medical students.

Continuing Medical Education & Training
The Foundation is looking forward to providing continuing medical education and training, and partnering with medical schools and other institutions on the wellness and success of African American physicians, residents & medical students. Program focus will include medical & business information, training and service delivery, and covering a wide variety of health related topics.

Physician Professional and Economical Development
Through partnerships with financial institutions and other financial experts, PMF seeks to provide physicians with financial and investment information coupled with network opportunities related to their sustainability, success and future of their businesses and overall well-being.

Youth and Pre-Med Medical Education
Mentoring program geared at encouraging African American high school and college students seeking to become physicians and health care professionals. Program will include a first-hand look at the daily operations of a medical office as well as mentoring, fellowships and internships at various medical offices, hospitals and educational instructions.
